Generation Next Basketball had a late Monday evening interview with Dayton, Ohio native Juwan
Staten and asked him about his AAU experiences over the last six months as well as his plans for the rest of the summer and
his goals for the AAU National Championships.
Juwan Staten is widely recognized as one of the most talented point guards on the national circuit and a consensus
top 5 player out of Ohio’s loaded 2010 class. Staten
told Generation Next Basketball that he is planning to attend Colonel White Performing Arts
High School in Dayton, Ohio where he expects to be a contributor on the varsity roster in the 2006-2007 season.
But for now, his goals are focused on the AAU circuit. “I see us doing very well. We’ve got some weapons and I
think we may even bring home 1st.” said Staten. The first he is referring to is an AAU National Championship, and Staten
may sound confident, but he has good reason.
Juwan Staten spent the early part of the spring AAU circuit with the All-Ohio Red team before deciding to play up an
age division with the 15u All-Ohio red squad. When the short season concluded for the 15u team, Juwan decided to look elsewhere,
and found a seemingly perfect fit across the Ohio River. Enter the D-One Kentucky Patriots
from Ashland, Kentucky featuring
two of the top 85 players in the country for the 2010 class. Chad Jackson is a 6-foot-2 combo guard and Dakotah Euton (a top
25 prospect) is a 6-foot-7 versatile forward. The Kentucky
bunch welcomed Staten to the team as their primary ball-handler and marksman from all over the court. Staten gave the D-One
Patriots their third player in the top 100, but more importantly, a legitimate chance at competing for an AAU National Championship.
This was evident as the D-One Kentucky Patriots defeated the YOMCA Memphis Tigers in pool play at the Nike Memorial
Day Classic in Tennessee. The Memphis Tigers have competed
in the final four of the AAU National Championships the last two years. Staten said the Patriots are a “great fit”
for his game and had nothing but kind words for backcourt teammate Chad Jackson. “He’s a big guard who really
takes the pressure off of me. He penetrates and finishes and he’s a big guy who uses his body” commented Staten.
Generation Next Basketball has marked the D-One Kentucky Patriots as a team on the rise heading into the national tournament.
With one of the top backcourts in the nation and a top 10 rated forward in Dakotah Euton, the D-One Kentucky Patriots should
enjoy success in Orlando, Florida during the first week of August.
